The Comedy Store is one of the most famous stand-up comedy clubs in the world, set right on the Sunset Strip at 8433 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. Its round black-and-white sign and the black outer walls covered in the signatures of comedians who have played there make it one of the most recognizable buildings on the Strip.
The club opened in 1972 in the building that once housed Ciro’s, the glamorous Hollywood nightclub of the 1940s and ’50s. Under longtime owner Mitzi Shore, it became the place where generations of comics sharpened their acts, and names like Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, David Letterman, Jim Carrey and many more spent years working its stages.
Today the club runs shows every night across three rooms: the large Main Room, the Original Room and the intimate Belly Room. Lineups mix rising comics with seasoned headliners, and well-known comedians often drop in unannounced to try out new material, so you never quite know who will take the stage.
Tickets are sold online and at the door, and shows are for guests 21 and over (18+ for some shows), usually with a two-drink minimum. Arrive early for the best seats, then make a night of it on the Sunset Strip, which is lined with famous music venues, bars and restaurants.
